Not sure what you need? You are welcome to call me first and have a chat before making a booking.

A more comfortable way to complete your assessment

From age 85, NSW drivers who want to retain an unrestricted Class C licence are required to complete a practical driving assessment every two years, in addition to their annual medical assessment.

You have a choice.

You can complete a driving test at a Service NSW Centre or choose a Transport for NSW accredited Older Driver Assessor.

With Let’s Go Drive, your assessment can start from your home rather than requiring you to attend a testing centre.

For many older drivers, being in familiar surroundings and dealing with one person from beginning to end makes the experience considerably more comfortable.

Your assessment in 4 simple steps

1. Contact me

Call or book your assessment and I will explain what you need before the day.

If you are unsure about any part of the process, just ask.

2. I come to you

Your assessment can begin from your home, so there is no need to travel to a Service NSW testing centre.

You can either use your own suitable vehicle or arrange to use my driving school vehicle, depending on your circumstances.

3. We go through everything first

Before we begin, I will explain the assessment process and make sure you understand what will happen.

There is no need to rush.

4. Complete your assessment

The practical on road component generally takes around 15 to 20 minutes.

You will be directed where to drive and assessed on your ability to drive safely in normal road and traffic situations.

Feeling a little nervous?
You are not the only one.

Even experienced drivers can feel nervous when they know their driving is being assessed.

My approach is calm, respectful and straightforward.

Before we start, I will explain how the assessment works and what you can expect. My role is to assess your driving fairly against the Transport for NSW assessment requirements, not to make the experience more difficult than it needs to be.

You have spent many years driving.1

The assessment is an opportunity to demonstrate that you can continue to do so safely.

Would you like a refresher first?

You do not have to go straight into your assessment.

If it has been some time since you have had professional driving instruction or you would simply like to feel better prepared, you can arrange a refresher drive before your assessment.

A refresher can help you become familiar with current road rules, identify driving habits that may have developed over the years and understand the safe driving behaviours expected during an older driver assessment.

Transport for NSW also recommends that older drivers consider refresher training when preparing for their assessment.

A refresher may be helpful if you:
  • have not had a driving assessment before
  • feel nervous about being assessed
  • have not had a professional driving lesson for many years
  • would like feedback on your driving
  • want to refresh your knowledge of current road rules
  • simply want greater confidence before assessment day

A refresher lesson and the formal assessment are separate services.

Frequently asked questions

Helping Mum or Dad organise their assessment?

You are very welcome to contact me on their behalf.

The NSW older driver licensing process can sometimes be confusing, particularly when several different requirements, letters and medical assessments are involved.

I can explain how the practical driving assessment works, what needs to happen before the assessment and what to expect on the day.

The decision to continue driving can be an important one for an older person and I believe they should be treated with respect throughout the process.
